Augmented Reality which is being used in surgical procedures since the early 2020s, is changing the face of healthcare, as it lets medical teams visualize surgical paths and stages, collect and process vast amounts of data, diagnose and make critical decisions as they perform a surgical procedure. It also plays an important role in training of medical staffs, patient diagnosis, patient education, and pain management. Together with 3D printing which is used to create anything from a surgical aide, to an implant or a functioning organ, the boundaries of medicine are being contently pushed to new highs, and with them are patient outcomes.
To support the implementation of advanced visualization and 3D printing at Soroka, we have opened an on-site lab dedicated to:
– Experimentation with 3D virtual simulation (Virtual Reality -VR)
– 3D modeling and printing of surgical related tools
– Education opportunities and hands on experience for medical teams (3D & VR)
